The Behavioral First Responder certification is designed for instructors, administrators, and counselors of all varieties that want to gain an understanding of common behavioral issues and useful responses. Our course will teach overarching theories, models, and techniques borrowed from the fields of social work, counseling, and psychology to help increase understanding about why a student is demonstrating a particular behavior, as well as some useful techniques that will help the student through their difficult moment and even prevent these issues. Additionally, this certification and pre-conference workshop is for anyone wishing to learn more about behavior and group management.
The curriculum is specifically designed for Experiential Educators who work in the fields of Adventure Education, Camp Counseling, Wilderness Therapy, or Adventure Therapy. It is important to note that this certification does not make the individual a therapist or counselor. It is merely designed to give insight into what is happening on the individual level, and help ensure your student's emotional safety until you can recommend future helpful avenues to them. Â Some sample topics for this workshop include:
- De-escalation Strategies
- Strengths-Based Approach
- Ecological Systems Theory
- Techniques for Specific Populations
- The Theory of Reasoned Action
- Handling Student Medications
- And many more
